Advanced Shoulder Treatments by Dr. Darshan Shah
At Phoenix Orthopaedic Centre, we provide a full spectrum of shoulder care services, ranging from sports injuries to degenerative shoulder conditions. While shoulder replacement is one of our key specialties, we also offer non-replacement surgical and non-surgical solutions to preserve natural shoulder function.
Led by Dr. Darshan Shah, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and expert in arthroscopic and minimally invasive shoulder surgeries, our goal is to help patients recover strength, mobility, and confidence—without unnecessary joint replacement.
Shoulder Arthroscopy
Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat various shoulder problems with small incisions and a camera-guided technique.
Conditions treated:
Rotator cuff tears
Shoulder impingement
Labral tears (SLAP lesions)
Recurrent shoulder dislocations
Frozen shoulder (capsular release)
Benefits:
Smaller scars
Faster recovery
Less paint
Day care procedure

Rotator Cuff Repair
The rotator cuff is a group of tendons that stabilize the shoulder. Tears can occur due to trauma or age-related degeneration.
Dr. Shah performs arthroscopic or mini-open rotator cuff repairs, including:
Complete tear repair
Partial tear debridement
Augmented repairs for chronic tears
Shoulder Dislocation Surgery (Bankart Repair / Remplissage)
Frequent shoulder dislocations can damage the labrum and the glenoid and cause instability.
We offer:
Arthroscopic Bankart Repair
Remplissage procedure for engaging Hill-Sachs lesions
Latarjet procedure for bone defects and recurrent shoulder dislocations
Goal: Prevent further dislocations and return to sports safely.
Labral Tear Repair (SLAP Lesion Repair)
SLAP (Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior) tears commonly occur in overhead athletes or trauma cases.
Treatment includes:
Arthroscopic SLAP repair
Biceps tenodesis, if indicated
Structured rehab for full athletic recovery
Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
For patients not responding to physiotherapy, we offer:
Arthroscopic capsular release
Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA)
Pain-relief injections
Minimally invasive methods offer faster recovery compared to conservative treatment alone.
Shoulder Impingement & Bursitis
Painful arc, night pain, or overhead restriction may be due to impingement or inflamed bursae.
We offer:
Subacromial decompression
Bursectomy
Acromioplasty
Quick procedure. Excellent outcomes.
AC Joint Injuries & Clavicle Fractures
We treat:
Shoulder separation (AC joint dislocation)
Clavicle fractures (displaced/malunion)
AC joint arthritis
Treatment options include:
Plate fixation
Tight-Rope ligament reconstruction
Minimally invasive fracture stabilization
Sports Shoulder Injuries
From cricket bowlers to gym-goers, shoulder injuries are common in active individuals.
We treat:
Thrower’s shoulder
Rotator cuff strain
SLAP tears
Labral instability
Early rehab and arthroscopy help athletes return to peak performance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small camera and instruments to treat shoulder conditions like rotator cuff tears, labral tears, frozen shoulder, and more. It is recommended when conservative treatments fail to relieve pain or restore motion.
Common symptoms of a rotator cuff tear include shoulder pain while lifting, difficulty sleeping on the affected side, and weakness in arm elevation or rotation. Diagnosis is confirmed through a clinical exam and MRI.
A SLAP tear (Superior Labrum Anterior and Posterior) affects the top part of the labrum and is common in athletes and overhead throwers. Other labral tears can occur in different parts of the shoulder. Both can cause pain, popping, or instability and often require arthroscopic repair.
Yes, early frozen shoulder can be managed with medications, physiotherapy, and steroid injections. However, if symptoms persist beyond 3–6 months or severely limit movement, arthroscopic capsular release offers faster recovery.
For recurrent dislocations, arthroscopic Bankart repair or Latarjet procedure may be advised. These procedures restore shoulder stability and help prevent future dislocations, especially in young athletes or after trauma.
Recovery varies depending on the procedure. Most patients return to daily activities within 6 to 12 weeks, while full sports recovery may take 4 to 6 months. Physiotherapy is key to regaining strength and motion.
You may need surgery if you experience:
- Persistent shoulder pain despite rest/medication
- Repeated dislocations
- Difficulty lifting or rotating your arm
- Shoulder stiffness not improving with physiotherapy
- Confirmed rotator cuff or labral tear on MRI
Shoulder arthroscopy is less painful than open surgery. Most patients report mild to moderate discomfort managed well with medications and physiotherapy. Pain usually reduces significantly within 1–2 weeks post-surgery.
Yes. Sports involving repetitive overhead motion (cricket, swimming, weightlifting, badminton) can lead to:
- Rotator cuff strain
- SLAP tear
- Shoulder impingement
- Labral tear
Prompt diagnosis and minimally invasive repair help athletes recover and return to play safely.
The cost of shoulder arthroscopy or rotator cuff repair at a NABH-accredited hospital typically ranges from ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000, depending on the procedure, implants used, and hospital stay. A detailed cost estimate is provided after clinical evaluation.
Yes. Shoulder surgeries like rotator cuff repair, labral tear repair, dislocation stabilization, and impingement decompression are usually covered under health insurance if deemed medically necessary. Our hospital team assists with pre-approval and claims.
Yes. We offer EMI plans and work with multiple insurance companies and finance providers to make your treatment affordable. Our billing team will guide you through the process.
